THE OFFICE MOVING CHECKLIST — 1-2 WEEKS BEFORE MOVING

You’re so close to moving into the new office! If you’ve been following the correct procedures in the prior months, these weeks should mainly be dedicated to administrative activities regarding your current office and your future move. Here are the top things Brandon Moving & Storage recommends considering about 1-2 weeks before the office move:

Planning Considerations

The two-week mark is crucial in making sure everything is in order for your big move.

Finalize your plans with the moving team. Give your team a detailed itinerary of the days leading up to the move. This is especially important if there will still be parts of the office running in the days prior, as it will avoid a lot of unneeded confusion!

Make sure you have confirmed all your services required for the moving day. For example, assure you have a company that will install phones and internet, and that they are aware of when it must be done by. Likewise, make sure your IT team is also in the loop of how and when they need to set up equipment.

Consider some spring cleaning of your current office. If there's any run-down furniture or equipment, it might not be worth taking those pieces with you. However, some moving companies will offer disposal services for these items, so it is always good to check.

Once you have all that done, see if you already have access to your new building. This way, if you haven’t already, you can inspect the new office space for any problems such as broken lights or loose wires and be aware of the issues in advance.

Data & Communications

If you haven't done so already, now is the perfect time to back up your files. By backing up files a couple of weeks before moving, you can assure you have the most up-to-date version of your database in case anything goes wrong in transit or your computers fail to reboot in the new office.

Once you have your files backed up, make sure to review your moving day schedule. Go over the times of the moving company's arrival and communicate with your team who needs to be available to let them in. Other things to consider include communicating who should be present at the move and who is responsible for locking up upon the mover's departure.

A week before you move, make sure to remind employees to pack up their personal belongings so that there is nothing left before the big move. There will always be stragglers, but this way you can reduce any big lag times.

Ready for move-in day

As long as you assure your employees and services alike are intimate with your moving plan and their responsibilities, your move should be easy going. Make sure all your services are confirmed for the big day and that any unnecessary/damaged equipment is thrown out. Make sure you clean up after yourself, check that the new office is ready, back up your files, and remind your employees that moving day is coming!

If you follow all these steps, your move will be a breeze. Brandon Moving & Storage can help ensure your office move goes smoothly.
